Reagan Compared to Obama start in the white house?

Many have made comparisons between the Obama and Reagan presidencies already, but

maybe this issue is still worth examining. Many see Reagan as a successful transformational president,

while Obama is still struggling to prove himself. Compare and contrast the early days of the first Reagan

term. Are there things that Obama can learn from the Reagan experience?Reagan Compared to Obama start in the white house?Reagan was powerful his first day in office, the Iranians were quick to get the hostages out of their country. Kadafi learned this the hard way, noticed he feels safe to come out again since Obama became president. If anyone was doing any bowing during Reagan's term it was the dictators bowing to Reagan.

Democratic presidents are bosses, republican presidents are leaders. There's a big difference between a leader and a boss, we presently need a leader.Reagan Compared to Obama start in the white house?
First, despite popular myths, Reagan was a highly controversial and oft disputed president, especially at the start (and it's hard to find a president to which this rule doesn't apply). With the S%26amp;L Crisis, many pundits thought Reagan would amount to nothing but a disaster, and yet his legacy as president has overcome even that financial set-back. If anything, the Reagan Administration teaches us to hold our judgements about a president's success based on one happening.

As to what Obama can learn, I'd say that tightening the Federal Budget is a good idea, but to not cut it as drastically as Reagan did. Since Obama has already announced plans to cut back on spending, I suggest that he looks at Reagan's cuts on domestic services and see which ones worked and which ones just created long-terms problems.Reagan Compared to Obama start in the white house?Reagan never once submitted a budget that was even close to being balanced. 300 billion deficits were the norm for Reagan . That cut aid to Americas most poor, but also cut aid to State and local governments. Military spending went out of control under Reagan ( it had the most waste , fraud, and new weapon systems that never worked in our history). and was not the reason for the so called Cold War victory as conservatives claim.

Reagan funded the Afghan freedom fighters ( that is what Reagan called them ) in their fight against the Soviet Union. We know the freedom fighters turned out to be Bin Laden and terrorist.

Reagan's war on drugs led to thousands of innocent Americans having their homes, cars, and banking accounts seized by the Federal Government. Also people being incarcerated without the possibility of parole for non violent drug offenses.

Reagan promised a smaller federal government but during his presidency it rose and at a rate higher to any other president.

Reagan was a myth, or should I say not very good at being honest.
- Inequality grew by leaps and bounds under Reagan.

- As governor, Reagan oversaw the largest tax increase in Californian history. Democratic Governor Jerry Brown cut back the tax rate when he came to office.

- As president, Reagan expanded the federal government by about 90%. Reagan allowed the welfare state to enlarge and the military budget to explode, causing monstrous budget deficits and government growth that dwarfs government growth under Clinton, even when Clinton had a Democratic Congress.

- In 1988, Reagan鈥檚 last year in office, outlays as a percent of GDP were running at 21.3% with a deficit of 3.1% of GDP. The budget deficit over Reagan鈥檚 eight years averaged 4.2% and ran as high as 6.0% in 1983. ( In 1980, the last year of Jimmy Carter鈥檚 presidency, government outlays were running at 21.7% of GDP and the budget deficit was 2.7% of GDP.)

- Reagan didn't grow his way out of the deficits caused by his 1981 tax cut.

- Reagan raised taxes twice in 1982, and then raised them again in 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, and 1987.

- Even with those seven tax increases and several years of strong growth, he still didn't get rid of his deficit.

- It took an eighth tax hike from George Bush Sr. in 1989, a ninth in 1990, a tenth from Bill Clinton in 1993, and then another economic boom to erase the deficit. Sure, a strong economy helped, but without all those tax increases the deficit would never have disappeared.

-Reagan increased unemployment from 7% to 11% in his first three years. The unemployment rate did not get better until his fourth year.

- Reagan taxed the wealthy at 50%. Obama taxes the wealthy at 35%.

- The foreign policy of Ronald Reagan did more to impoverish and kill the poor and helpless humans of the world than any world leader before or since - with the possible exception of GWB. He was going to defeat communism (which was already falling of its own weight) and he didn't care how many children were burned alive or how many people starved to death on the way.

- The practice of rewarding incompetent cronies with gigantic useless contracts for unneeded military hardware was elevated to art form under Reagan. Reagan's legendary megalomania, hubris and abject ignorance led him to believe the tales of any crackpot who managed to slither past the goons who comprised his inner circle. Star wars missiles, atomic shields, space-age death rays, you name , he would fall for it and blow billions of your tax dollars on it.

- Ideologically, he was a hater and an imperialist and far-right loony-tune. He hated the poor. He hated gays. He hated leftists. He hated communists - and he was pretty sure you were one if you disagreed with him. He never met a social program he didn't scorn. He never met an American in need wanted to help. His response to the AIDS epidemic is one of the most sickening cold-blooded expressions of pure murderous political evil in the history of the earth.

- Then there was Iran-Contra - the infamous orgy of unfettered criminality at the heart of the Reagan legacy. Look it up. Rogues, liars, crooks, murderers and ignorant heartless scum surrounded Reagan at all times.

The list goes on and on.

##Reagan Compared to Obama start in the white house?Reagan gave speeches from his heart

obama gives them from a prompter

Reagan was a former Demcorat, a Union Leader and was successful PRIOR to politics.

obama was a former muslim - never worked in the private sector - never had a real job outside of government

Regan was modest and humble

obama published his "memoirs" before he even did anything with his lifeReagan Compared to Obama start in the white house?
Reagan came into a worse situation and had an opposition Congress to deal with. Once he got them to cooperate, stuff was FIXED post-haste.

Obama has Congress on his side and can "work" unimpeded. Since he's doing the OPPOSITE of Reagan, 100% of sane people expect an OPPOSITE result.
Well,

Reagan said that government IS NOT the solution to our problem; the government IS the problem.

Obama says that government IS the solution to the problem.Reagan Compared to Obama start in the white house?
Reagan had a comparable unemployment rate and a lower approval rating at this point in his presidency.
I suppose Obama could sell weapons to Iran. Would that prove himself to the GOP? Would that get him any GOP respect? It did Reagan.
Reagan recognized government as the problem.

Obama sees government as the solution.
Reagan was a movie star and tv spokesman before becoming president. Of course Obama won't have as much charisma
Please be over 40 years old before answering ... no point in having someone answering if you were too young to know anything about the early Reagan years.
Obama cannot learn because he is unteachable.
Well, I think that the main difference so far is that Reagan was a grown up.
