No politician will ever tell you that the result of one of his/her policy initiatives might result in a "catastrophe".
I think that if the stimulus fails the left wing media will do their best to put a "happy face" on it but Mr. O's approvals will drop down into single digits and stay slightly higher than the approval ratings for Congress.
R's will take over both houses by large majorities in '10 and Mr. O will become a lame duck the same way Clinton did in '94. If Mr. O goes along with Congress he might still have a chance for re-election but he probably won't. Nothing had happened to the earth and afterwards many a time ice age came and went; nothing happened to the world; it still exists. If $ 800 billion is lost nothing is going to happen to this world; Obama may be restless because it is his habit; he could not even complete the oath of his office in a correct manner. It will fail just as surely as Bush's stimulus plan failed. Big business will pocket this money, too leaving us out in the cold. If the Gov't wants to spend $800 billion, give us peasants a check for $30,000 each instead. We'll actually spend it! Economy would come out of it's doldrums quickly.As far as Obama goes, it's way too early to be worrying about his legacy. Dude hasn't been in office a month yet.

The package is one of 4 legs of a chair. Sitting around and doing nothing, now that we gave the Banks and Wall Street $350 Billion, is only an option to Republicans. And why should we believe them? They created this mess!
I think it's kind of like saying, "Well, I just lost my job making 40,000 dollars per year, so what I'll do, is take out a home equity loan for 40,000 dollars, and then make my kids pay it back when they get older."
