What do you think about Obama allowing the photography of fallen soldier's coffins?

Bush didn't let anyone see, partly to pay respects to the soldiers and partly to not let anyone see how many actually are dying. Obama says that coffins may be videotaped or photographed as long as the relatives of that brave young man or woman sign a waiver of permission. What do you think? What do you think about Obama allowing the photography of fallen soldier's coffins? You got it slightly wrong.

The Bush administration didn't allow photographing military coffins as a means of controlling the media and reducing opposition to our current military entanglements. The excuse was that it was being done out of respect for the dead.

In a truly free society we should be allowed to see the coffins of our fallen soldiers if we so chose. So long as the soldiers are not identified publicly I don't even see why familial permission needs to be sought. What do you think about Obama allowing the photography of fallen soldier's coffins?
Obama is leaving it up to the individual families to decide. That's a smart decision. What do you think about Obama allowing the photography of fallen soldier's coffins?I don't think that anyone should be able to take picture of it except the family themselves. If my husband were to die, I would not sign shiit for the media to be nosy. I think it's ridiculous to be harrassing families in their time of grieving for permission, get a life.
if bush walked an old lady across the street, Obama would punch her in the face and steal her purse, just to show he's the opposite. What do you think about Obama allowing the photography of fallen soldier's coffins?a smart and honorable move on his partWhat do you think about Obama allowing the photography of fallen soldier's coffins?
We are a free society and a government of the people. Nothing should be hidden from us. I don't agree that the families should have to sign a waiver first.
The media would blow it out of proportion, a greater proportion of the American people would grow opposed to the war, and we would have more pressure to leave. Obama thinks this is a good idea because of his inability to understand long term strategy. The truth is we would risk more American lives later by not being in Iraq now. What do you think about Obama allowing the photography of fallen soldier's coffins?
Why do you want to see a picture of the coffins anyway? Only because everyone is obsessed with showing how much of a "bad president" Bush was. Leave the families of our fallen heroes alone and give them the respect they deserve.
I think that the best option was chosen. That is it is up to the individual family to decide. That to me is a no brainer. However this is big government that we are talking about.
Ehhh... In a way I disagree for reasons such as the media. If there is one thing I can't stand it's listening to the media talk about how many soldiers are dying ALL the time. But as long as Obama doesn't just say "Go ahead and snap all the photos you want" to the media it's ok. His decision to let the families decide kind of justifies it. I don't think the pictures should be taken but if the family says it's ok I guess it's their choice. I'm not an Obama supporter, but as long as he says it's the family's choice it's perfectly fine by me.
It might come back to bite him if casualties from Afghanistan turn out to be markedly hight that they have been form Iraq recently.
i think its disgraceful and is just another atempt to make the us look bad
It's a great way for America to understand what the sacrifices of war really are. What has a more profound impact; a number in the scrolly-bar of CNN or a picture of 5 flag draped coffins?

The fact that it is up to the families should cut down on exploitation as well.
So long as names aren't going to be released (without the family's permission) and such, I fully support it. I think the people of the United States NEED to see the truth about this war. I'm glad to see Obama doesn't believe in total censorship like Bush did.

There is no point in showing the coffins of trhe dead at all their families will veiw them enough as it is and it takes a sicko to want to view coffins in the first place if the people are no relation to you
I think its the right thing to do.

I always thought not showing the coffins was a huge sign of disrespect, like their sacrifice didn't matter. If my husband died in Iraq/Afghanistan, I would want every last person to know to know what he did; that his death meant something.
