How is Obama any different than Bush, economically speaking?

Obama's new budget for 2011 is 3.8 trillion dollars in spending. This is far beyond what Bush spent in his most expensive year of 2008 in which he spent roughly 458 billion dollars. I realize war costs are not included in the official Bush budgets, but even if you add 200 billion in war costs for that year, Bush's spending is minuscule compared to Obama.

Why is this okay when we all criticized Bush for spending too much?|||I agree. As George Bush left office he set in place the first TARP stimulus package but since then Obama has kicked the spending and entitlements into high gear as he has sky rocketed our debt to over $12 Trillion, ensuring that our current economic policy is unsustainable and will most surely result in economic collapse - IF allowed to continue unabated. But is this what Obama wants - only so he will be there as the “hero” to pick up the pieces.

Private Industry - Obama is openly against private industry and the way the American economy operates. He believes that the government and only the government should replace many of these industries - as they feel they could do it “better” and “more efficient” - but we all know that is a joke. The government should just get out of private industry’s way, lower their taxes, offer employment incentives and private industry would boom once again. Obama is clueless.

Jobs - Obama’s idea of jobs is FDR’s idea - of having the new jobs be paid for by TAX DOLLARS, instead of creating an atmosphere where the private industry can create those jobs. Obama wants to create new GOVERNMENT jobs - this is insanity. He wants there to be MORE government workers than private industry workers - all that does is ensure his vote from all those government workers - a nifty plan indeed.

The Economy - Since Obama took office, the confidence level in the American economy has plummeted. His economic policy of spend and tax is destroying the American economy, consumer confidence and small businesses across this great land. He is destroying the economy rather than helping it to rebound.

Health Insurance - Obama’s obsession with passing this health care bill has seen him dip to the lows of blatant bribing and corruption as he tries to slam this bill down America’s throat - whether the people want it or not! The bill is NOT about “health care” - it is ONLY about the government and Obama grabbing as much power and control over YOUR life as they can - and health care is the classic way to get it done.

Global Warming - A complete fraud and scam. Even after the information comes out that the scientists were incredibly, withholding conflicting data - the politicians steam ahead. We even had many of our delusional politicians still spend millions of tax dollars just to go to Copenhagen as they tried to further the scam in the faces of a now “on to them” American public. It was and is a complete disgrace.

The Constitution - Obama is doing all he can to avoid the Constitution. Nothing he does goes by the Constitution - all shown by his blatant corruption, bribes, back room deals, appointing of controversial “czars” and hatred for Capitalism and the American way. He wants to grow the government into a monstrosity - that the Constitution would never recognize. For America to remain a free and independent Republic, the Constitution MUST be the focus of all the government does.

Honor, Dignity and Transparency - Throughout the years truthfulness and honor have been a problem but with the Obama administration they have been kicked into high gear and now executed, blatantly in front of a shocked American taxpayer. Evidenced by Obama’s low level dig at the Supreme Court during his speech - real cheap politics - and I believe he will pay for this in the long run. Tape after tape can be shown of Obama lying and members of Congress lying - it is disgusting to watch and these traitors MUST be voted out of office at the first chance the taxpayers get. o_O|||He spends more money. Both deficits over $1 trillion have been on Obama's watch.|||Obama says it in a more educational way that we dont understand.|||0bama is spending WAY more than Bush.

"Obama's spending can produce a ROI"

yeah, $1T added to the deficit last year alone!|||In my question below, they're saying that common sense is what tells them the man won't ask for $10 trillion next year if he gets $4 trillion this year.

Well, common sense tells me that if he gets is $4 trillion this year, it will only encourage him to ask for more next year.

Unless we, the people, stand up and say NO MORE, this will continue to happen.|||obama is a bigger disaster than Bush is the only difference I see.|||It's not that it is okay but that it is necessary in our current economic crisis.|||So are you suggesting that Obama isn't getting criticized for spending? He is, so why bother asking? Plus, it depends on what he is spending money on.|||He is allowing Pelosi and Reid to spend us into oblivion with no end in sight. We will be owned by China soon ...... oops we already are.|||bush screwed us by spending too much

obama is screwing us by spending too much

basic economics states: to have a strong economy you need to

1. cut taxes for everyone (buisnesses and the wealthy included)

2. cut spending across the board|||Politicians don't make the economy, citizens do. So long as desperate, grossly overpopulating hordes suck away jobs and whole industries by undercutting wages, it will continue to get worse until it explodes into world war as it ultimately does.|||The difference between them is not as great as most people who voted for Obama would like. Because both parties really have the same agenda these days. Money has become the most important thing in electoral politics; whichever candidate spends the most wins about 95% of the time. And both parties get their money from the same places, so you can't expect their agendas to be all that different.

But Bush's TARP (Troubled Assets Recovery Program) was much more 'liberal' in terms of just shoveling taxpayer to troubled banks and stock brokerages. Bush just GAVE them the money, imposing no conditions, not even requiring the 'loans' to be paid back. Obama still gave them the money but it was a loan and in return he extracted some public ownership so if the operations do recover the taxpayers stand to get back some or all of the money.

Recession is the time for deficit spending. The idea is to stimulate the economy so govt. revenues grow, so the deficit spending is seen as an investment. Reagan and both Bushes spent money like water during GOOD times, simply handing out taxpayer money to their friends, building up a huge debt that would hamper us in a recession. Reagan insisted that with the changes he made to the tax code there simply would be no more recessions, and after doubling the entire pre-existing national debt in a single term, he was still insisting well into his second term that revenues would rise to cover the new debt (they didn't of course). Reagan and both Bushes ran as budget hawks, promising to balance the budget, but once in office they all behaved as if debt simply didn't matter.

Obama met with Republicans the day before yesterday to answer their questions. Once again he was bombarded by the false (and irresponsible) accusation that his deficits were bigger than Bush's. He said simply that this was a lie, and that educated men like senators and congressmen should know better than simply to repeat a lie over and over. I think it really put them in their place.|||Obama is not asking for BLANK Checks..... Obama is spending it on America....... Bush wanted and got blank checks.... while Bush cut overtime for the men and women risking their lives in Iraq.... and the building these soliders were going too when injured were rat invested...... he made sure Haliburton, who's headquarters, was moved to the middle east.... got their pockets lined very well with over charging the tax payers......

See the difference.....|||Do some research, for God's sake. The Bush budget was not 458 billion, that was the reported deficit, which did not include the wars and the social security surplus spending, resulting in a REAL deficit if 1.2 trillion. Bush added 8.3 trillion to the national debt. Do you see the problem? Obama has reinstated the Pay go system, which helps. We will no longer add entitlements( Medicare D), or give tax cuts, or fund wars without a source of revenue either in spending cuts elsewhere or taxes. Our "automatic" spending every year is now 2.6 trillion dollars. Ask your parents to cut expenses by 50%/month and you will understand the problem with "automatic" spending.|||One of the things that the dems have wrong is the deficit Bush had included the bailouts while he was in office. What they don't tell you is Obama has been the one who used and spent that money.

It should be added to Obamas numbers since he had control of it. From what I see Obama is going to destroy our country.|||First of all, the estimates on the cost of the war's under Bush are WAAAYYY more than 200 billion. Secondly, The economy was "soaring" (ridiculously over-inflated) when Bush was in presidency meaning that the government didn't need to hand out nearly as much money for social programs (EI, welfare, housing tax breaks, etc etc etc) or bail out major corporations (which by the way was approved under Bush, Obama just followed through because it really was the only option. Not that it makes it any easier to swallow). The cost of bringing an economy out of a depression are waayyy above and beyond a normal operating budget. If you think I'm wrong, ask yourself how much of your unemployment cheque you'd be willing to give up each month in order to create a more "balanced" budget. Not likely very much. Everybody wants everything to be sunshine and daisies but doesn't want to accept the cost of paying for it (possibly a VERY significant reason the housing bubble burst in the first place don't ya think!?).|||Obama is a train wreck and folks who believe otherwise should put down the Kool-Aid and count how many zeros are in $3.8 Trillion. And I'm reading that that's a conservative budget estimate! By 2012 our National Debt will be greater than our GDP. Will Obama blame Bush for that too? The Stimulus package was supposed to jump-start the economy and now we have double digit unemployment. Now Obama wants to spend more? He wants to punish the banks while Barney Frank and the people in charge of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are not held accountable for the sub-prime loan mess.

Why does anyone have confidence in Barack Obama. Even highfalutin' rhetoric must be backed by some substance eventually.|||Because Bush did it when the economy was strong, and Obama's doing it to rebuild the economy.|||Simple -

%26gt; Bush's overspending was an accommodation of what OTHERS demanded - specifically including Obama himself - whose votes would have delivered a budget 4 times BIGGER had Obama gotten his way. - Yep Obama fought to "inherit" a deficit WAY BIGGER than the one he DID "inherit."

%26gt; Obama's overspending is completely at his own behest. No one's pushing him into it; he is PERSONALLY demanding it.

Oh, wait - economically speaking?*

Well, in that case, according to OBAMA, less government spending is better for the economy. So, according to OBAMA, Obama is DEMANDING more HARM to the economy than Bush ALLOWED. According to Obama, Bush is better for the economy than Obama is.|||he's not. they are both wrong.|||We thought Bush was a big spender, but Obama is 10 times worse.

Also the media constantly told us how dumb Bush was for 8 years, but Bush looks like a genius compared to Obama. Obama is a total moron. How did he even get through high school?

Did you hear Obama mispronounce the word "corpsman" twice. I guess it's because he's reading it from a teleprompter and apparently doesn't know the word.

Is Obama the dumbest president we've ever had? Obviously so. Also he's the most progressive and Marxist we've ever had. His approval rating is dropping like a rock. Only the very ignorant still like him. Oh, and the state-run media, who are paid to love him.|||The difference is, Bush was way better. Way, way, way better.

The Dow reached its all time high of 14,000 in 2007, on Bush's watch.

It was no bubble, the Dow was above 10,000 the majority of Bush's time in office up to that point.

But after the GOP lost its majority in Congress in 2007, the Dow took its worst one-year plunge in history.

Bush's economic policies worked for six years. But after the GOP lost control of Congress, it was all downhill from there.

After the GOP lost control of Congress, then the GOP was not able to pass legislation that could have prevented the crash.

The Democrats did nothing. The GOP might have done something, but they couldn't because they didn't have a majority anymore.

Bush's watchlist system worked for 8 years and 3 days. Even if you start counting with the shoe bomber on 12/22/2001, it kept us safe from airliner bombings until 12/25/2009.

If the system worked that long, why did it fail less than one year after Obama took office? The problem is not the system, it's the people who are now runing it.

They took a system that was working, and in less than a year it fell apart.

And unemployment was NEVER 10% on Bush's watch.

The so-called "mess" that Bush gets blamed for actually happened AFTER the Democrats gained seats in Congress and the GOP lost its majority.

I think that points to who is REALLY to blame, and why these problems persist after the Democrats have gained even more control.|||Obama's spending can produce a ROI...Bush's didn't
