What does Vega, Deneb, and Cancri mean also? What does Rigel mean? As in Rigel, the left foot of the Orion constellation.?Rigel means foot

Vega means the swooping

Deneb means tail of the hen

Don't know what Cancri means, as there is no star with that name. What does Rigel mean? As in Rigel, the left foot of the Orion constellation.?It's the name of a specific star in the Orion constellation. Vega and Deneb are also names of stars. What does Rigel mean? As in Rigel, the left foot of the Orion constellation.?Rigel

The star's name comes from its location at the "left foot" of Orion. It is a contraction of "Rijl Jauza al-Yusra", this being Arabic for "left foot of the Central One". Another Arabic name is ????? ?????? ar-rijl al-jabbār, "the foot of the great one" (giant, conqueror, etc.), which is also the source of the variant name Algebar.

Vega

The name Vega comes from the Arabic word waqi meaning "falling", via the phrase ??? ?????? an-nasr al-wāqi‘, translated "the swooping vulture". As part of the constellation Lyra it represents a jewel set in the body of the harp.

Deneb

The name is from dheneb, the Arabic for "tail", from the phrase ??? ??????? %26lt;eth%26gt;anab ad-dajājah, or "tail of the hen".

Cancri

Traditionally, extrasolar planets are named using their primary star's name plus a lowercase letter in order of the planet's discovery from the star, starting with "b" rather than "a" (b, c, d, e, f, ...). So, for example, the third planet discovered around 55 Cancri is called "55 Cancri d". Capital letters (A, B, C, D) are used for stellar companions; this leads to a situation here where 55 Cancri's distant red dwarf companion is called 55 Cancri B, but the star's first discovered planet is called 55 Cancri b. Sometimes, to prevent confusion, the planet is called 55 Cancri Ab, refering to its primary as 55 Cancri A rather than simply 55 Cancri.

It seems that the name itself, "Cancri", is just so because they are found within the constellation of Cancer.
