Is the milky way galaxy in the constellation leo?

Just to build on what Violin said before. People often get the milky way confused with the path of the ecliptic. The sun lies on the path of the ecliptic, and is the actual path the sun takes in the sky year round. The zodiac constellations are famous because they also lie on the path of the ecliptic. Basically the way it worked was the sun would lie in your zodiac constellation when it was your birthday. (IE Leo is the zodiac constellation for most of August so the sun is nearby Leo in August aka Leo is out in the sky during the day).



The milky way does not fall along the line of the ecliptic. It lies on a different path. It also flips in the sky depending on what season you are in. In the summer time in the Northern Hemisphere the Milky Way's Center can be visibile. The Zodiac Constellation Saggitarius actually points to the center of the milky way. In the Winter time the milky way stretches hi overhead, and you are looking at the stars in the milky way that are away from the center.Is the milky way galaxy in the constellation leo?No. When we look in the direction of Leo we are looking out of the Milky Way, in to inter-galactic space. We see lots of galaxies, including the Leo Triplets, one of my favourites. Next door, in Virgo, we have the Virgo Cluster with more galaxies than you can shake an eyepiece at.
