I posted this in the politics section but I thought it might be relevant for this area as well.
I'm curious to know where the both parties stand on our current space policy, vision for space, and the constellation program. What is the general stance on our space policy from democrat and republican candidates? As a political junkie, I've watched a number of the Democratic and Republican debates. For the most part, nobody ever talks about this. (In fairness to the candidates, the debates are driven by the questions, and nobody ever asks about space policy.)
The one exception I'm aware of occurred during the Republican YouTube debate. The questioner asked about the candidates' "vision for human space exploration."
Huckabee answered first. He said he wasn't sure about going to Mars, but wanted to expand the space program. Tancredo (who has since dropped out of the race) criticized Huckabee by saying that the country has to control spending, and that Huckabee's response is part of the problem.
You can find transcripts of this interchange in various places. Here's one:

Here's a link that discusses your question:

The title of the article is "Where the candidates stand on space." Candidates haven't spent much time on this issue, but this article summarizes what positions have been taken so far. What is the general stance on our space policy from democrat and republican candidates?I have only heard one candidate even talk about it. I believe it was Huckleberry, and he said he couldn't understand why we should be "waisting money" on going to Mars. What is the general stance on our space policy from democrat and republican candidates?unfortunatly I think their focusing on other issues during their campaign. the ones that seem to hit our media on a daily bases.
good question though. email me info if you hear of any
